    is there a way to increase a character’s maximum HP using pick-ups or passive items?

    rojie, in Part 18, we cover creating passive items that will modify a character’s max health.

    If you want to use pickups to modify a character’s max health, we will need to expand the PlayerInventory script to accommodate stat modifications in pickups.
